The Mason County, Belfair, Shelton, Hoodsport areas have long been popular for the summer-only set. Small lots right on the beach with clams and oysters at your feet. One of my favorite places is Hartstene Island, but there are lots of small bays and other bridge-accessed small islands in this area. If you are looking for a lakefront getaway, then try one of the many lakes, some of which allow water-skiing, others that allow only electric motors to maintain the peace and quiet.
There are still some pretty remote waterfront areas that have spectacular views of the Olympics. It's a bit of a drive to get there, but worth it when you do.
