AREA B
Skagit County

Area B begins at the end of Chuckanut and includes all of Skagit County. Water views across Padilla Bay and along Samish Island area beautiful. The main waterfront cities are Mount Vernon which is along the Skagit River, Anacortes, and LaConner. Anacortes has bloomed in the last ten years. It's a great jumping off point for the San Juans, has several great marinas, both public and private, and has easy access to I-5. I believe much of the new growth has developed from folks who thought they wanted to live in the San Juans and then decided the isolation would be too much so they compromised. Formerly populated by fishermen and later workers at the refinery there, it now has a huge retiree population and the town has been transformed. New restaurants, new boutiques, and lots of new homes. One of the most interesting new areas in Anacortes is The Pointe, a development of new homes and lots with spectacular views -- and prices to match. Nearby is the older community of Skyline, with marina and lots with private docks. If you wish to own a moorage slip, you can try to get one at the Anacortes Marina. Near Anacortes are several lakes, including Campbell Lake, which has a wonderful rural, farm feeling to it.
Along the Swinomish Channel, which is the waterway connecting Padilla Bay (Anacortes area) with Skagit Bay (which divides Whidbey Island from mainland Skagit County) you will find the quaint village of LaConner, a favorite for locals and tourists alike. Across the channel is Shelter Bay, another 'canal' community with private docks and marina. There is very little waterfront for sale on Skagit Bay on this side, but around the peninsula on Similk Bay you can find nice places.
Area B also has several nice lakes, including Big Lake and popular Lake Cavenaugh. Best views are along Marine Drive.
What do I like best about this area? The proximity to the San Juans and the great restaurants in LaConner (I like to eat!).
